With so many opioid deaths occurring in Palm Beach County, Florida, please be aware that Florida has a Good Samaritan law for overdose cases. Under Florida Statute 893.21, if someone calls 911 or the police, for medical assistance for a drug-related overdose, they and others who are present will not be prosecuted for possession of any drugs or controlled substances.
The law was enacted in 2012 in order to save lives. Often times, friends gather together to do drugs. While doing so, someone overdoses. Those friends and people around are often afraid to call 911 for emergency medical attention due to the fear of police arriving and then being arrested because there are illicit drugs in their possession. Everyone needs to get out the word that saving a life comes first. In addition, everyone needs to know about this Good Samaritan law and that they will not be prosecuted in this scenario.
