In a bizarre case that sounds like an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” a group of six individuals were arrested last week on an odd variety of criminal charges. For eight months prior to the arrest, investigators had been monitoring the group as they allegedly used scanners to steal credit card numbers, used the stolen credit cards to purchase gasoline, and then resold the gas at their farm in Miami-Dade.
The Tip of the Iceberg
Initially, the police investigation was only focused on finding the “fuel farm” where the group was allegedly reselling gasoline. Once police obtained a warrant and moved in for the bust, they discovered a wide range of additional crimes in progress, from manufacture of marijuana to illegally baiting and breeding animals. Things the police claimed to have found include:
- Roughly 25 marijuana plants
- More than 100 game fowl, many with injuries
- A ring to train roosters for cockfights
- Gambling machines
The six individuals range in age, with the youngest being 36 and the oldest 53. They are all facing a host of serious criminal charges, including organized scheme to defraud, credit card counterfeiting, several charges related to the cockfighting equipment, and quite a few more.
